Alex Kantz

Alex is a sophomore at Loyola University Chicago majoring in molecular and cellular neuroscience on a pre-med track and minoring in Music. Born and raised in the suburbs of Chicago, Alex appreciates the wealth of opportunities the city offers.  He volunteers with National Alzheimer’s Buddies as part of the Loyola chapter, which advocates for companionship and support for patients and residents in memory care settings. He is also certified as a nursing assistant at Cedarhurst Senior Living in Woodridge, IL.  This role has afforded him patient care experience and shaped his understanding of the healthcare setting from a more empathetic and practical standpoint. These experiences have been instrumental in building the communication skills essential for his aspiration to become a neurologist board-certified in sleep medicine.

In addition to his career-oriented activities, Alex is the principal Clarinet player and section leader of the Loyola Wind Ensemble. Music is a cornerstone for Alex, and he enjoys attending concerts hosted by groups such as the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Northwestern Bienen School of Music. When not immersed in music or his studies, Alex cherishes time spent with friends, family, and his three cats: Sadie, Logan, and Chloe.

Alex is eager to begin working on research related to stress and memory and contribute to the body of knowledge on the subject.
